you might remember flesh coffin from their appearance on the séance compilation from worthless recordings that I posted a while back.

this release comes to us courtesy of prairie fire tapes, who've put out material from vomir and gomeisa, amongst many others.

the overall package is really nice, with a full-color j-card and a pro-printed tape. the sound is very harsh - some tracks are a little wall-oriented but there's more than enough variety throughout the others to hold your attention.

overall, a very solid and enjoyable release.

although I'm generally unfamiliar with the prairie fire discography, I'm going to fix that as soon as possible. they have their own webstore as well as distribution through experimedia.

buy a copy via the link below. and check out the worthless recordings link above, as they've got a different flesh coffin tape for sale, too.

VHMNT / BLSPHM

with just a few releases under it's belt, belief mower has jumped onto my radar in a big way with releases from demian johnston's BLSPHM project and the newest golden raven tape, which may be posted here soon...and they also released live krieg tape, of which both the first and second pressings sold out almost immediately.

I'm obviously a fan of BLSPHM, and while I had never heard of VHMNT before, the description of "stratospheric black metal from beyond the stars" piqued my interest, so I picked one up.

limited to fifty hand-numbered copies, this lengthy split definitely makes good on that description. VHMNT's track is epic by just about any measure, clocking in at more than twenty-four minutes and covering a range of styles, from ambient drone to furious black metal. it's a slow build, but it works - before you know it, those drones give way fuzzed-out guitars, raucous drums, and discordant howls. it really, really works and inspired me to track down other VHMNT recordings.

the BLSPHM track is much more ambient and droning, with the aural textures of grinding machinery haunting the background and pulling the listener into a rusted, decayed world of darkness. sorry if that sounds a bit hyperbolic, but it is what it is.

copies are still available at belief mower via the link below, and be sure to check out some of their other offerings as well. if blackened drone is your cup of tea, you'll definitely find something new to love.

here's one more from the january program...and maybe the last one I'll post, too. the others that I have, they don't totally fit in with the rest of this blog, but maybe I'll put one or two up if I'm desperate for content...

anyway, social junk appear to have a pretty lengthy discography which I'm ashamed to say that I'm completely unfamiliar with. even after perusing the shadiest of russian torrent sites, I've been unable to track down any full-length rips of their earlier material...so if any of you have any of said material, I'd love to take a listen.

nevertheless, let's consider this release simply on it's own merits: it's noise, it's ambience, it's post-punk, it's anything and everything, often all at once. and while the specific sounds can vary wildly from track to track, it's a very cohesive release on the whole and I've been really enjoying it ever since it showed up in my mailbox.

interestingly, it appears that this release was originally offered up for free from the band a few years ago, but like most mediafire links, it has since gone dead. and the hard copy is sold out everywhere - even mount analog is out of copies.

so here it is. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

it's from richard ramirez, it's forty minutes of very minimal harsh noise wall, and it's all spread across two cassettes that are packaged in a nice white envelope adorned with black and white imagery.

what more can I really say?

there are some heavily distorted vocals at the beginning of side three - a dialogue sample, I'd guess - but good luck figuring out where it's from or what it's saying.

but it doesn't matter. this is the american master of HNW right here, and this release is limited to just twenty copies, so grab one fast. ramirez himself is selling it on discogs so your dollars are obviously going directly to the musician - a truly rare feat these days.
